Creating MP3 and Ogg files is a two-step process:

First each song is "ripped" (or copied) from the CD and converted into a large .wav file.

Then each .wav file is encoded and compressed into MP3 or Ogg format.

When the process is complete, the .wav file is deleted and the converted file remains.
